Memorial Lecture

The Elizabeth Shuchat-Schwartz lectureship is an annual lecture, which takes place each autumn at Congregation Shaar Hashomayim, Montreal Canada. The lectureship features women who have made a mark in the area of Jewish life and education. Since its inception in 2000, the program has featured some of the foremost woman role models in the Jewish world today: Rebbezin Esther Jungreis of New York City in 2000, Prof. Ruth Wisse of Harvard University in 2001, Dr. Aviva Zorenberg of Pardes Institute, Jerusalem in 2002, the late Dr. Miriam Shapiro of the Jewish Theological seminary in New York City, Dr. Tamar Ross of Bar Ilan University in Ramat Gan, Israel, and  Mrs. Blu Greenberg of New York City. In 2006 we hosted Mrs. Sherri Mandel, mother of the late Cobi Mandel killed by terrorists at the age of ten. She spoke on her book, The Blessings of a Broken Heart. In 2007 we hosted Dr. Rachael Turkienicz from York University in Toronto, Canada, and in 2008 we hosted Mrs. Avital Sharansky of Jerusalem. In 2009 we hosted Andrea Levin of CAMERA, the Israel media advocacy organization.
