The Ner L'Elisheva Foundation

The Foundation

The Ner L'Elisheva Foundation was created in 2002 to perpetuate the memory of Rebbetzin Elisheva Shayna (Liz) Shuchat-Schwartz, of blessed memory.

Liz's short life was a paradigm for kindness and love, teaching, listening and bridging the gaps between groups and individuals. The Foundation was set up to follow the light of her beacon and to create educational frameworks that synthesize between study of Torah and the challenges of modernity. The Foundation looks for new and creative ways to express Jewish culture in the modern State of Israel, in the spirit of traditional Judaism.

Our Goal

The board of the Foundation is made up of men and women, Rabbis, academics and laymen of various streams within traditional Judaism who by their positions and/or activities play an active role in communal Jewish life and education in Israel and abroad.

The Foundation's goal is to enhance Jewish traditional education in the State of Israel as well as to seek out new expressions of Israeli-Jewish culture. Furthermore the Foundation seeks ways and means to bridge gaps in Israeli society between Jews of religious and non-religious backgrounds in a meaningful dialogue.
